Colleges See 16% Increase in Study of Sign Language

Even despite budget cuts and dropped language requirements, American Sign Language courses are becoming increasingly popular to students throughout the country.

Due to funding cuts to universities, many institutions have dropped their requirements of foreign language credits. Students, however, are still signing up to take sign language, regardless of requirements.

It had been observed that many students were taking the course as opposed to traditional foreign language options, but students are now completing the courses to enhance their careers.  People with jobs such as interpreting, nursing and psychology can benefit from knowing sign language.
